Husqvarna CR 400 MG 2695 almost there.

Restored seat and new aluminium front fender mounted. This bike is also ready for start now, hopefully it will behave just as good as the other one. Also the front tyre is replaced, the original Trelleborg T 544 was cool, but looked a bit to worn so a replaced it with another newer Trelleborg front sneaker.

A pleasant problem, I am almost out of space for my Huskys...

I will get some decent photos of this bike with a proper camera when I take it outdoors for a test ride.

Seat restoration

Seatbase back from zink plating.

Parts ready for assembly, original foam will be reused

Glue on foam and baseplate.

Foam and base bonded together.

Fitting of seatcover

Finished seat, looks a lot better than before.

Husqvarna CR 400 1969 MG 3056

Just a quick test start, a bit loud for the neighbors. I later did a short test drive and I must say I was surprised, the whole bike felt quite modern. Light, crisp power, great clutch and shifting was good, however a bit strange being on the right (wrong) side. Jetting felt a bit lean so I will order some new jets and work on that later on, but for now I am pleased.
Enjoy some pics from a sunny spring day in Sweden.

Exhausts part III

Exhaust painted and fitted.

Now all this bike need is some premix gasoline and hopefully there will be some ring-ding..

The observant reader might notice that the seat is missing. I decided to replace the seat cover on this bike too. Seat base is also going to be replated, more on that later.

Other than the seat the bike is ready for start.

The Husky lifeblood.

Filled both engines with oil today, hopfully there wont be any big puddles of oil on the floor tomorrow...

Motuls finest transmission oil, for wet clutches.
The day of first startup is getting closer.

Exhaust part II, Small progress

Front and rear brackets welded and new end pipe fitted.

Not sure about the lenght of the pipe, it varies on all pictures I find of these bikes. I belive the 1969 model has a longer pipe than the 1970 model, anyway it is a simple task to shorten it if I want too.

Exhausts part 1

These exhausts were ín tragic condition. Rusted, bent, broken, cracked, dented you name it.
I have sandblasted them and welded all the holes and cracks. When all brackets are in place I will grind down the most obvious welds and maybe sandblast them again before paint.

I had to cut out some of the worst dents and straighten the metal, then weld it back in.

New brackets

First test in order to mark were I will weld the new brackets.

Looks a bit like an old machine gun

Clearence to front fender is marginal.

I dont know how long my new seat will hold up against the heat, or my leg for that matter...

The final decision?

As for now I have decided not use my desert master tank. Personally I think it looks great,  just a bit too big on the bike. And it wont fit without some modification due to its lenght.

Chainwheels and chains.

New rear aluminium chainwheel and new RK 520 chain. Due to some clearence issues i choose a standard chain instead of O-ring. Gearing is 13/52.

This rear chainwheel was in good condition, Chain is new 520. Gearing 14/53.
Front sprockets new on both bikes.

The look.

I am trying to decide on what look I want for my racer.

Works aluminium tank, light and slim. I will probably paint it later on.

Mikuni fuel tank vent hose from http://www.husqvarna-parts.com/ .

Original 1970 tank. Have some small dents and scuffs but is never repainted and still has all original decals.

NOS desert master tank with all new paint and decals.

Cables and controls

Aftermarket cables made in England, bought from http://www.vintageviking.com/

All cables were in need of some light oil.

Vintage Magura controls restored and fitted with NOS Magura grips.

Reproduced dust cover.

Brake and throttle installed, routing of throttle wire looks a bit suicidal...

Chlutch side.

For the bike I intend to ride I choose a Renthal vintage bend handlebar with padding.
http://www.bear-sports.com/ is a great source for Magura stuff.

New Magura controls, Renthal grips and sidepull throttle.

New Magura kill button

Chlutch side.

The bike on the right is fitted with NOS 1970s handlebar, high and wide.
No padding + limited suspension = smash mouth.
