Husqvarna CR 250 1970 update

And I just couldn't resist to add a new champion sticker to my 1970 cr 250 tank.

Fabricating the intake adapter.

A good chunk of aluminum in the lathe.

This is the half finished intake adapter, just checking so it really fits before I finish it and try to give it a better finish.

Update on my 1969 husqvarna 400

I finally found a nice set of front forks, new seals installed and new paint on the lower legs.
The old set had the lower legs machined down and had some damage on the chrome.

Exhaust routing.

The jury is still out on the question of single or dual exhausts.
I personally think it would be cool to run a dual setup, but it will be way easier the find side panels for a single silencer and cheaper. Also the bike will be way wide and heavier with duals.
Single it is, for now..

Placement of parts.

This frame was originally made for a small 2-stroke engine but so far everything has lined up, the carb on the other hand was not easy to fit. I will have to be mounted further away and with a slight upwards angle in order to clear the frame tubing. Note my low tech intake adapter.
I like natural materials but it will be replaced later on with an aluminium one.

Another low tech method, since the carb will be relocated the oem airfilter will not fit anymore, K&N  has a good website with all measurements of the different filters. I want to use a filter as large as possible so i made a dummy out of paper.

Tight fit.

Coolers and hoses loosely fitted

Left exhaust fitted.

Right exhaust fitted, it will be a tight fit.
The next step will be to mount the steering stem and triple clamps back to check if it will clear the tank and coolers, then weld in new brackets for the coolers and start to fabricate the head pipes.

Goodie bag.

Got a bag full of very cool NOS parts from a fellow Husqvarna collector.
I am super excited about the BKS made ignition cover, very hard to find. Just add holes.

Engine meets frame.

To my surprise the engine slipped right in the frame. I was prepared to cut away the whole lower engine cradle and redo the lower mounts. And I even found a fitting engine mounting plate.
For the rear axle I have fabricated insert sleeves that are pressed into the engine cases to reduce the diameter in order to fit the smaller axle.

There will however be some creative thinking needed when it comes to the carb and air box...
